kentucky doggy (s)

Today was my monthly visit to the Monadnock Humane Society— MHS got a bunch of puppies from a kill shelter in Kentucky last week, and they are all ready for adoption. MAN these guys are cute… and FAST. I left the house in a hurry with my camera still in its small bag from last weekend, when I used my 50mm lens. Not the best choice for these speedy guys! Luckily my husband was there to help me out, and you’ll see his hands in a couple of these photos.

This is Gizmo– he had us in fits bouncing up and down to peer over the half door of his room!

Tiger and his (sister?) Tory were too cute in their room together. This was about the only time he stopped running around– still a bit blurry! Below is Tory- sweet, gentle, kind.

Here’s Tissy, a tiny, quick, licky little pup! She looks like a dahcshound (spelling?!) beagley type mix.

I didn’t catch this guy’s name– a gorgeous adult dog with long, white fur. He was a champ dealing with his cone head!

Ah, Rheanna. Sweetie of sweets. I wanted to take her home with me. Such a love. She’s an adult dog, about five years old, and with a look of real wisdom.

Poor Benson is still getting accustomed to MHS and will be ready for adoption soon. What a sweet, shy boy he is! Those eyes… aw man, volunteering at the shelter is not for the weak of heart. I wish I had a dog ranch for all of them.

And here’s Harry- who was nervous about being outside, but I needed some good light. As soon as the photo was done, he was back to bed!

Another puppy! Patty was so precious, snuggly, and smart. Her roommate Bear is being adopted today, which is great news.

..and finally… the news that made my day: The first pup that I photographed today, was adopted while we were at the shelter! I went back to get her name to find that she had gone HOME! Ah, life is good. Here she is:

… and it’s a good thing, too, because as soon as I saw her, I wanted to scoop her up and put her into my hoodie pouch and bring her home for Tucker!

If you are interested in meeting any of these animals, please visit the Monadnock Humane Society in Swanzey, NH. They are open from 12-6 on W, F and Sat, 12-7 on Thurs, and 12-4 on Sundays.

And don’t forget: help keep puppies from ending up in the shelter in the first place by donating to the Humane Society, and you’ll be entered to win a portrait session and $50 print credit. 24 hours to go…

Hillary - I want Patty! I wish my mom would let me get a dog… the Humane Society is like five minutes away from my house… Maybe if I visit with my mom she’ll change her mind (:
